I got into tech by trying all things design (from character design to VFX and motion). I faked my way into UI design by doing some concept work. Flash forward to now β I've been doing this for the past eight years β the last four of those years I spent building professional tools at Netflix. I enjoy designing and building things. I often feel most comfortable in a hybrid role, taking on some product management and trying development once in a blue moon. I worked at small startups and big tech; I navigated career changes and professional disappointments. I don't have the answers, but I have the experience to share.

Hereβs what Merit users have said about Ivan
Ivan was a great coach. I love that he asked me additional questions to clarify my goal. His insights and suggestions for my portfolio were also great. I love the perspective that he provided. Although I am unsure how to act on some tips, I appreciate his coaching session cause it allowed me to look at my work from a different perspective. It was refreshing. Generally, Ivan is super friendly and professional. So it was a pleasure to speak with him. Thanks a lot for this session, Ivan!
Ivan was generous with his advice. Key takeaways included "working backwards" to achieve my goals and getting in to Tech by reaching out to startups. Although we are in different "verticals" I found his advice very applicable, especially in regards to honing my "craft" and the importance of soft skills. I'm very happy I joined Merit, and hope to be able to give back in the near future.

Ivan was very thoughtful in sharing valuable feedback on my portfolio. He gave honest, specific, actionable suggestions on ways for me to improve upon my case study. His overall message was to think through the lens of hiring managers and recruiters viewing my portfolio presentation as part of my design product and to make sure it had the same finesse that I put into my actual design projects.
